I was over at YouTube earlier and the term 'Smackdown!' kept coming up. There's no obvious definition on Google, so I checked Urban which has a few. I might be able to come up with my own definition for this word tomorrow if I have time!

I found this lecture illuminating. It is about the cultural and political differences between the stateless peoples and ways of life of the hills and the state centred 'civilisations' in the valleys of South-East Asia. The speaker is Professor James Scott, Sterling Professor of Political Science and Anthropology at Yale University.

My answer from today (and I'm not sure if this counts) is telling someone I was 'not from around these parts' when they asked me for directions! [I think this can easily be beaten!]

Well you have to recognise when what you were about to write crosses the line.

Not my line of course, because my line is so far off in the distance it would take an optical device with magnification power akin to that of the Hubble space telescope to see it.

But it would have been funny. And may well of caused some people to feel a tad uneasy.

And it was self depreciating and the only person who would have looked bad would have been me, but still.

I have decided to not go there.
