...at my lot.
My bedroom looks like a 70s nightmare. The furniture is older than my parents. The curtains, like all other curtains in the hall, are a faded, mucky orange. The bed linen is new, but, purhased in a time where shades of beige and biscuit hues are de rigeur, the chocolate brown sheets simply add to the retro atmosphere. Retrosphere?
I am sat on the floor (moss green), wrapped in a large furry throw (also - obviously - chocolate brown), and thinking, "I am 24, it is 2008, and this is not how it should be for me right now. Where is the matte-finish chrome and quality laminate flooring favoured by my peers?".
It compounds my brain's current train of thought that "This is the Wrong Choice". For as it has just told me, "You do not have the money to purchase new curtains in the beige/biscuit/cream hue of your choice", a purchase that I feel would, sadly, change my life for the better at the moment.
I shall continue to sit in the middle of the floor, continue to read Agnes Grey, and continue to look at the curtains.

Hmmm the decor is certainly considerably more "retro" than I would like either. But then again if the colour scheme is depressing and making you feel unhappy, maybe you can justify a little retail therapy on this occasion providing you can afford to eat and things.
How much are the curtains you desire? BHS used to be a good place to get reasonably pretty and cheapish curtains. Recently and possibly currently Brown has been fashionable and I recall that there were some readymade curtains with cream/gold and brown in there which I thought were quite nice, although they might be a bit too tinselly for your taste.
