I know she recognises me, but does she know my name?
Can anybody think of a way I can work out if my cat actually knows my name? I think she knows hers. There must be some way to test this out.

That's why I need something more cunning and subtle. Man versus cat - not a very even contest is it?
She wont know your name but will know the sound it makes....you can call your cat anything as long as the sound stays the same...![]()
I know she does respond to her name, though only at certain times of day, I notice, usually corresponding to when its convenient.
she knows it but cats are too cool to own up - she's pretending.
Could it be a double bluff?
If my partner Helen says to the dogs "where's Tom", they will look for me and then look pleased when they find me. You could try a similar test with your cat, but since cats are notoriously difficult to get to play along, it might not work.
Tom.
She might know full well where I am but decide she's not telling.
Wonder no more. Cats know everything. Did you know there is a theory that 'puss' comes from pasht or bast - the ancient Egyptian cat goddess? With that kind of pedigree, your cat certainly knows your name.
It's 'Slave.'

I think cats know not only our name, but our surname too...
but they will never let us know that they know it - more you want to 'test', or drill cats, more they will ignore you... *miaow*
